Is Eating An Animal Based Diet Healthy or Necessary
Do you eat a diet rich in animal protein? If you have ever wondered if eating an animal based diet is healthy or not, you will want to read this article. Researchers are finding that eating a diet high in animal protein can actually trigger harmful bacteria in the gut that can lead to a number of diseases like IBD or inflammatory bowel disease.
But what about eating a plant based diet? The study which followed 11 people and studied their diet for a period of 14 days. For the first 4 days they ate their normal diet, then the next 4 days they eat as they were told, and for the remaining time they ate their normal diet again.
What the researchers found is that once meat (animal protein) was introduced into the diet, the bacteria in their gut that cause inflammation were increased.
They also noticed that a certain type of bacterium called Bilophila wadsworthia, which is known to cause colitis in mice was increased when the participants of the study started eating meat. So what does all of this mean for you?
Very simply put, it is a clear warning that human beings do not need meat from animals to survive. Not only that, but science is quickly learning that eating a diet high in animal protein is not good for us in any way. This is not new news though. In 2005 there was The China Study which studied the link between health and animal based diets, and the results are startling.
Reasons to Eat Healthy:
Americans hold on to this belief that it is our right to eat animals. Yes, our ancestors ate animals but it is not the same as Joe from down the street is eating animals. To start with, there were no food challenges 10,000 years ago. People weren’t eating to the point of gluttony and eating meat for every single meal. In fact, many times meat was not available for early humans, and they survived on what was available.
Eating a diet that is high in animal protein is not healthy. If you eat a diet high in animal protein like the Paleo Diet or any other diet that is not based on plant based protein, you are very likely sick and/or overweight. If you are not overweight I bet you spend a lot of time at the gym to get rid of those extra pounds, don’t you?
How do I know these things? It’s simple. I was just like you. I loved steak and chicken and would eat it anytime I could. I thought that eating “lean” meats like chicken for 95% of my meals with a cooked-to-death vegetable would make me slim and healthy. But what really happened is that I got fatter, and felt worse every single day. The second that I took animal protein out of my diet, the weight melted off and continues to do so now.
I am not plagued with sickness and an upset stomach all of the time, and I weigh less than I ever have as an adult at almost 40 years old. I do not tell you about the advantages of a plant based diet and the disadvantages of an animal based diet because I am following some trend. I have made the switch in my own life, and the results are nothing short of incredible.
